Budapest travel tips
The Budapest zoo was opened in 1866 and became one of the first in Europe. It hosts 1072 animal species. The zoo is located in the Városliget park, in the city centre, which is quite unusual. The ticket price is about 9 euro for an adult and 6 euro for a child's ticket.
Castle Hill rises above Budapest, offering wonderful views of the city. You can climb the hill by the old cable car called Sikló. On the hill, there is the former residence of the Hungarian kings, Budai Vár. Now it houses the National Gallery and the Museum of the History of Budapest.
There are several retro tram routes in Budapest. They run at a specific time and are more expensive than regular public transport. For example, the retro tram on route 2 runs only on Saturdays from 14:50 to 20:30. The historic tram number 19 runs only on Sundays from 14:45 to 20:30. The ticket price is 500 HUF (1.40 euro).
