Salt Lake City travel tips
In 1847, it was in this place that Brigham Young saw the Salt Lake Valley for the first time and said the historical phrase: "This is the place!" Since then, the valley has become a new home for immigrant Mormons. A stone obelisk was erected in the park in honour of the first settlers at the site that marked the end of their long journey from Illinois.
The Deuel family was one of the first to settle in Salt Lake Valley. The hut, built by Osmin Deuel, was part of the Old Fort, the first permanent pioneer settlement. It is a restored log house, authentically furnished, with historical household items and furniture from that epoch. A visit to this city landmark provides an insight into the lives of Utah's first citizens.
If you are visiting Salt Lake City for a short time, you will not need a car or public transportation. The city is easy to navigate. Central areas of Salt Lake City, such as Temple Square, are pedestrian-friendly.
