Málaga travel tips
Founded around 1000 BCE by Phoenicians, it is still one of the busiest Spanish ports. The local authorities did their best to make it not only an important transport hub, but a tourist destination. The eye-catching wavy canopy offers protection from the relentless sun. The walking area is separated from the work zone by tempered glass. You can observe magnificent cruise ships arriving and departing. Besides, there are some cafes, restaurants and a number of shops nearby.
The Caminito del Rey (the King's Pathway) is a walkway pinned along the gorge’s walls in El Chorro, a small village slightly more than 60km from Málaga. Originally built in 1905, it is 1m wide and rises over 100m above the river below. Walking this narrow path along the high rock wall provides visitors with a thrilling experience. If you don’t have a car, the best way to get here from Málaga is by train, which departs once a day.
Finding a currency exchange with a good rate is a challenge in Málaga. However, using ATMs also has its downsides. Even if your bank doesn’t mind your withdrawing money abroad, local banks may charge several euros or several percentage points for the operation. One of the few Spanish banks without such a fee is Unicaja. You should compare exchange rates for cash with the ATM exchange rates before operating with large amounts of money. You might still be better off using an ATM.
